Dalglish: Quartet will 'frighten' rivals
Read more at soccernet.espn.go.comLiverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is already looking forward to the time when he can field new signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez alongside Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles in a "frightening'' attacking line-up.
Another doom prophecy for MU
Some of what he says are true (and often repeated); however, SAF is an old hand at this. He had built and rebuilt teams throughout his twenty plus years at the helm. His trophy laden cabinet is proof enough. So I'd say let SAF has his hubris, as long as MU tops the table come May ... every year.

Sir Alex Ferguson focus
The hidden price of success
GettyImagesSir Alex Ferguson could oversee Manchester United's 19th title success this season
In this context, title 19 will cause problems for United. They would deserve credit for being the most consistent team, with the character to overcome deficits, but that doesn't vindicate Ferguson's tactics. Indeed, it seems that in the first half of games, United have had two opponents: the team they're playing and Ferguson's chalkboard whims. They cannot afford to go into 2011-12 with the same mindset.
The lack of competition superficially backs up Ferguson's recent spendthrift behaviour. The Glazers, like any chairmen, will be happy to hear their manager say that he doesn't see the worth in spending money. The 'no value' theory isn't total rot. Darren Bent cost £24 million, James Milner a little more, and Andy Carroll came in at £35 million. This is plainly madness, but 'no value' is not an unimpeachable refrain. It uses others' failures to justify underinvestment when there's dissenting evidence at hand. Patrice Evra, Ji-Sung Park, Nemanja Vidic and Rafael, and possibly Chris Smalling, Javier Hernandez and Fabio, show there are players available at sensible prices who can play at the highest level.
Read more at soccernet.espn.go.comThis does not account for the other United purchases - Anderson, Nani, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney all came for sizeable fees. Ferguson has been happy to pay over the odds in the past when necessary. Underinvestment in the team is therefore a huge risk. Having defended the board to the hilt, denying financial troubles and decrying high transfer fees, Ferguson will be in an awkward position. In the next two years, he has to groom effective replacements for Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. He has to come up with a player to replace Owen Hargreaves. On top of that, he has to identify solutions to the future exits of Michael Carrick, Evra and Ferdinand. On top of that, he'll need to do it on a budget.
Good bye, Gary ...
I will always remember him every time MU meets Liverpool. Consummate MU. Salute Gary ... we'll miss your fighting spirit.

The Commerce Dept. is backing a new security system for online identity checks that could be a boon for e-commerce

Kuala Lumpur, Most Livable City in 2020?
I love KL. It is always good to see throngs of tourists flocking the streets of KL these days. Just wished our street signages to be improved.
Anyway, this aspiration (and wishes) by the KL mayor is welcomed. All that is needed now is the concerted effort to reach this goal. Also, a comprehensive plan to achieve yet. Just wished foreigners stop saying "KL? Is that in Singapore?".Amplify’d from www.nst.com.my
Mayor wants KL to be one of 20 most livable cities
He pointed out that, according to the Economist, the three most livable cities in the world are Vancouver, Vienna and Melbourne.
The measure of the cities' livability is based on the availability of goods and services, low personal risk and an effective infrastructure.
"Kuala Lumpur is now ranked at 79 out of the 130 listed cities. We want it to be at least in the top 20.
"One of the main criteria is the effectiveness of the infrastructure, and the efforts to achieve this include the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in Greater KL.
"Works on the project is expected to start in July and be completed by 2016.
He said it was also City Hall's focus this year to ensure a clean, comfortable and green Kuala Lumpur, in line with its vision to transform Kuala Lumpur into a world class city by 2020.He said the river project was another initiative aimed at revitalising Klang River into a heritage and commercial centre for Greater KL.
Next year, Ahmad Fuad said restaurant operators would be required to install WiFi broadband facilities under the regulations for new developments and licensing requirements. He said this would provide improved Internet accessibility for the public.Read more at www.nst.com.my
Marina's Musings: 2011 Resolutions for Malaysians
I share with some of her 2011 resolutions. A lot of stuffs in Malaysia need fixing. Most importantly though, what goes in our head aka "mindsets". We should strife to have 1st class mindset and discard our 3rd world ones. 2020 is only nine years away. It looked more likely our neighbor down the causeway will get there first, in the truest sense.

Resolutions for one and all
MUSINGS By MARINA MAHATHIR
newsdesk@thestar.com.my
IT’S the New Year and, as with convention, we should really make resolutions, even though the chances of keeping them are slim.
I wish that our Government would resolve to:
2. Stop twisting words in order to spin what’s wrong into what’s right.
7. Remind some people that they are paid by taxpayers to do their job and that does not entitle them to act as if they are God’s representatives on earth.
10. Overhaul the entire education system to make it more open, democratic, and at par with the best in the world. And completely eradicate politics from it.
12. Ban the habit of giving titles to sports, arts and entertainment figures until they’re at least 50 or have had significant achievements in their field for a number of years. Roger Federer has been No 1 in the tennis world for a record-breaking 237 weeks and the Swiss government still hasn’t made him a Datuk.
I wish politicians would resolve to:
3. Be more self-reflective. And breathe before they say anything.
I wish the police would resolve to:
3. Stop shrugging their shoulders every time someone complains of their bags being snatched, laptops stolen etc. Police reports aren’t just for claiming insurance or getting new ICs done.
I wish Malaysians in general would:
1. Use their car signal lights for a change
3. Park in the right places, dead straight and not encroach onto empty spots.

Indonesia not lifting ban on maids anytime soon
Indonesia placed a moratorium on sending domestic helpers to Malaysia on June 26, 2009 after a series of high-profile incidents of maid abuse which raised a huge public outcry in Indonesia.
He said the Indonesian government will not be lifting the ban until the MoU regulating domestic helpers has been amended to provide greater protection for them.

Torres swaps Reds for Blues
I think this one's for the future. The Drog will be out the door come May. Anelka will follow soon as I don't see him partnering Torres. Chelsea could revert to single striker much like Drog before Anelka came.

Another scapegoat for a shoddy M'sian project?
I feel sorry for this chap. It takes a 60-page report to arrive at this conclusion. What's interesting is I thought this project was project managed by JKR; and they are the ones that conduct the inspection post incident? Additionally the report also pointed out the project management team didn't have the "necessary skills and competence to manage a project of such magnitude and complexity." And this would absolve them?
In the end, I believe this proceeding will drag on and this guy will somehow be slapped with a short sentence. And the credibility of our engineering projects will always be questioned.Amplify’d from thestar.com.my
Engineer charged over Terengganu stadium collapse
Wan Manan Wan Ali, 51, from Kuala Ibai, here, claimed trail while Justice M. Bakri Abdul Majid fixed March 17 as the re-mention date.
Based on the charge sheet, Wan Manan was alleged to have acted like an approved examiner in issuing a document dated Jan 15, 2009 on the main roof truss system and its related works for the proposal to construct the main stadium, known as the Terengganu Sport Complex.
An investigation committee established by the Public Works Department to determine the cause of the collapse at the RM292mil stadium underlined several crucial factors in a detailed 60-page confidential report submitted to the state government one year after the incident.
It also stated that the project management team did not have the necessary skills and competence to manage a project of such magnitude and complexity.
Read more at thestar.com.myThe committee also noted that the management team had failed to conduct a design analysis, considering that the complex architectural shape and large spans made the structure very sensitive to any movement in the supporting structures.

PR losing its luster
With this win BN will be more confident in the coming GE. I would think that PR would reconsider having PKR in the coalition. PKR has lots of internal infighting due to "trojan horses" within the party. We still need a strong opposition in the government. Lest there's no check and balance.
